Forums on the internet are a great way to market or advertise your business. If you’re on a small or tight budget, using internet forums which relate to the same subject as your products are a great way of getting your business’s name out there into the online community. They are free to use, however they all have their own rules and have moderators who enforce these rules so be careful about how exactly you post in them.
Some of them are quite strict when it comes to including links in your posts so make sure you read up on the rules of each forum before you invest too much time in the ones that wont allow you to advertise yourself.
Finding good forums can prove a bit tedious as there will likely be many that are unsuitable, but stick with it and you’ll find them. When looking for good forums to utilize for advertising purposes you should look out for certain things. Can you include HTML links in your posts? Is it constantly busy with many users browsing? Do they allow you to include a signature which will appear at the bottom of each post you write?
When you find three or four good forums which relate to your product, sign up for all of them and start posting! Try to set aside a couple of hours per day for this if you can. Make sure to include within your signature a link to your website, this way you wont be constantly ramming your site down other users’ throats but it will be there with every post you publish.
When posting in the forums, make sure that every single post you write is meaningful and written in an articulate way. You should try to add information and make a good contribution to all of the discussions. It will get you noticed by the other users and they will become curious about the website you have in your signature.
A fantastic website I use, which is dedicated to all things marketing, is WarriorForum.com. It quite literally has thousands of people browsing it at any one time and I personally have never seen a forum so busy. Posting there will get you noticed pretty much instantaneously and if you have any questions about marketing, online or offline, you’ll likely have many good answers within an hour.
Many business owners are put off by posting in forums because they feel like their time would be better spent on what they feel is “real”advertising, such as creating an ad for AdWords or spending six hours designing a fancy banner ad that may get four or five clicks.
These methods are fine, but with forum posting you get to show people that you’re a real person with valuable knowledge and expertise on your respective niche. You can show people that there is a human-being behind the business, making it feel more personal and less like a faceless money-making machine.
