Five Steps on How to Create an Online Presence With Forums

The Benefits of Forum Posting

Forum posting is one of the easiest ways to market your business. Aside from Blogging, forum posting can also increase your credibility as a subject matter expert. Instead of posting articles in one location (Your Blog) you can demonstrate how good you are by posting in forums.

The best part is you don’t have to create a 500-word article in order to produce good content. You just need to tell your opinion and people will either agree or disagree. The only thing you need to do is to communicate.

Find the community that is right for you – The first thing you need to do is to search for an authority forum about your niche. This is the easiest part. All you need to do is to go to Google, type-in the keyword you want to search, and then add the word “Forums”.

As an example, I am a part-time virtual assistant and I want to help people be successful in this kind of work. I also want to learn new things and get updates about the Virtual Assistant industry in general. I typed-in “Virtual Assistant Forums” in Google and I was able to see a lot of high PR forum communities where I will be able to help and benefit from at the same time.

Join a conversation – The first thing you need to do is to join a forum conversation. Browse through the categories and topics in the forum and feel free to state your opinion. I strongly believe that joining a topic with high number of replies and views can help you be seen by the community. You’ll notice how easy it is to give free advice to people within your specialization/niche. You’ll enjoy reading and commenting your opinion because this is where you’re good at.

Ask intelligent questions – A good way to promote your skills and ideas is by starting your own thread. A good example is, if you think you found a convenient solution about something that is considered a challenge in your niche, go ahead and start a thread asking for the community’s opinions about it.

Also, make sure that your question hasn’t been answered yet. Before posting questions, it is advisable to search the forums for similar threads first. If you posted a question that was already answered, people in the community will get irritated and you’ll surely receive a bunch of negative comments.

Start an engaging topic – Same as “Asking questions”, starting a topic that is presented in a smart and useful way are posts that the community loves.

You’ll notice that there will be negative comments as well but don’t take it personally, they are just stating their opinion (like you) and you should always be open to criticism. This is how you’ll learn better and this is how the community will accept you.

Respond to responses – Observe your forums posts and respond to people who commented. Give them your opinion about their responses and you’ll surely build a network of people who’ll trust you and consider you credible.

Building your own community is hard. But you can start creating your empire by joining one, and you’ll notice that you’ll eventually get loyal friends and readers. The most important part is to have fun and not to take any negative feedback personally.

If you answer intelligently, people will click your name and check your profile. Adding a signature is also a good way to promote your site and get traffic from within the community. Just make sure that your signature looks professional and not spammy.

Also, back links (or links that are pointing to your site) are a good way to earn SEO points from Google. Especially if the community you joined is an Authority site for your niche. In my opinion Forum Posting kind of a win-win-win situation.

You’ll be able to find a community that shares the same opinions as yours, people will get to know you personally, and they will trust your business. Plus, you’ll get referral. What do you think? Can you share to us your forum experiences? We’ll be more than happy to discuss them with you. ’till next time!
